
Yuram Ruiz is a conductor and cellist, renowned for his passion, dynamism, and commitment to musical excellence. Rigorously trained and possessing extensive experience, he has become an influential figure in Switzerland and on the international stage.
Originally from Venezuela, Yuram began his career within the renowned Sistema Nacional de Orquestas y Coros Infantiles y Juveniles de Venezuela, where he performed with the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra. Mentored by masters such as José Antonio Abreu, Gustavo Dudamel, Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, and Daniel Barenboim, he developed a true passion for conducting.
He continued his musical studies, earning a music degree in 2010 under the guidance of Marcio Carneiro, followed by a Master’s in instrumental performance at the Conservatoire de Lausanne in 2012, and an advanced diploma from the Pavia Cello Academy in 2013. In 2014, he completed a Master’s in instrumental pedagogy at the Conservatoire de la Suisse italienne under Enrico Dindo, before furthering his conducting skills at the Hochschule der Künste Bern between 2016 and 2017 with Dominique Roggen and Florian Ziemen.
Yuram Ruiz brilliantly directed the Grand Orchestra of the Cantonal Conservatory of Valais in Sion for a decade, demonstrating both his leadership and talent. As director of the prestigious Campus Musicus at the Tibor Varga Academy, he also left an indelible mark on music education. Furthermore, his tenure as director of Jeunesse Musicale Suisse from 2014 to 2016 reflects his deep commitment to nurturing young musical talent.
Since 2016, Yuram Ruiz has conducted the Lario Symphony Orchestra, and in 2017 he was awarded the MUSICAINSCEN prize for his exceptional skills as a conductor. In 2019, he was invited to lead the Camerata Internacional de Barcelona, and his success earned him a four-year mandate as the ensemble’s principal conductor.
His career has taken him to numerous prestigious festivals, including Murten Classics, Montepulciano, and the Sion Festival, as well as other events across Europe. He has conducted several renowned orchestras, including the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bienne-Soleure Symphony Orchestra, the Argovia Philharmonic, the Bern Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Haute École de Musique de la Suisse italienne, the Lausanne Haute École de Musique Orchestra, and the Zagreb Radio Television Orchestra. His style, combining technical precision with emotional depth, has been widely acclaimed.
In 2018, his debut with the Bienne-Soleure Symphony Orchestra received critical acclaim, leading to an ongoing collaboration with director Kaspar Zehnder. In 2019, he continued to shine internationally, notably conducting the KKO Kammerorchester Kurpfälzisches in Mannheim at the Murten Classics Festival.
In 2020, Yuram Ruiz was appointed Artistic Director of the orchestra LE NOVE, a position he still holds, enhancing his reputation as an innovator and interpreter of major classical works, including the full cycle of Beethoven’s nine symphonies and all of Brahms’ symphonies.
In parallel, he conducts the Youth Orchestra of Italian Switzerland, using his experience to inspire young talent and support their musical development. His first opera conducting debut in April 2024 with a Mozart work marked a significant milestone in his career.
As director and teacher at A Tempo Music School, Yuram Ruiz has demonstrated strong pedagogical leadership, innovating musical education in Switzerland.
He has conducted remarkable concerts, such as those at the Gianadda Foundation and the reopening of the Teatro Comunale in Latina, Rome. His appearance at the Locarno Festival, where he conducted Ricky Martin before 25,000 spectators, highlights his versatility and ability to adapt to large-scale productions.
